About Heal-a-Child
Heal-a-Child Foundation is a Charitable trust and Non-Profit Organization, founded with the mission to save sick children who may not survive, not because of their illness, but because the family cannot afford to pay the medical expenses that come with prolonged in-patient treatment at the hospital.
The foundation, which started in June 2010, has saved over 800 children in the last twelve years. Heal-a-Child is one of the few organizations that pay for the medical expenses of very poor sick children irrespective of the type of illness. Its primary focus is on newborns and premature babies who need intensive care treatment. Heal-a-Child has partnered with several hospitals across Hyderabad. The children who are supported are directly referred by these hospitals. When a hospital receives a case where the child is critical and the parents cannot afford to pay for medical treatment, the hospital calls Heal-a-Child. The team at Heal-a-Child evaluates the financial situation of the parents & then makes a decision to support the child based on certain financial criteria. The hospital bill is paid for directly by Heal-a-Child.
The hospitals refer three types of cases:
- Children already in the hospital whose parents have paid some money and after a point cannot pay for continued treatment.
- Critical children who come to the emergency room and when the parents find out the cost of treatment, take them away without treatment due to lack of affordability.
- The girl child whose parents/grandparents refuse to spend money on her treatment because they feel she is not worth it.
In all cases, Heal-a-Child requires the hospital to waive off Doctor Fee, Room Fee. This is the ensure that the hospitals work with Heal-a-Child in true partnership for the cause and to ensure the maximum number of children can be saved from all resources available. Heal-a-Child pays between Rs.25000 to Rs.1.5 lakhs per case. Heal-a-Child has supported over 800 cases so far, including many newborns and children below five years old.
Heal-a-Child Foundation’s trustees, members, and employees are committed and dedicated to the cause of raising funds from individuals, families, professionals, and companies. All Trustees and Board Members work for free and do not receive any remuneration from the organization. 99% of the funds raised are used for the purpose of paying hospital bills and saving sick children. This organization has one of the lowest overheads as most expenses are sponsored in kind by our generous CSR partners.
